Custom stand-up pouches with bespoke printing

packaging warehouse offers you a wide selection of stand-up pouches, flat pouches and sachets- in fixed as well as freely selectable sizes. You can choose from over 18 high-quality materials and numerous customization options such as reclosable zippers, Euro slots for the point of sale, and premium matte or glossy finishes. Thanks to their reliable barrier properties, stand-up and flat pouches provide optimal aroma protection. They are food-safe, odorless and tasteless, and ensure long-lasting freshness of the contents. This benefits not only foods such as coffee, dried fruit, nuts, or spices, but also products like pastes, liquids, hygiene items, and cleaning agents. The packaging effectively protects against oxygen and moisture and, if desired, also against UV radiation. An integrated zipper also enables easy reclosing- for lasting freshness even after opening.

The difference between stand-up pouches and flat pouches

The key difference between stand-up pouches and flat pouches lies in their construction and functionality. Stand-up pouches have a stable base that allows them to stand upright on their own - ideal for display on shelves or at points of sale. Due to their increased filling volume, they are particularly suitable for larger products or, for example, refill packs, such as for foods, personal care items, or household goods. If required, they can be customized with Euro slots or zippers.

Flat pouches, on the other hand, are a more compact, flatter packaging solution that is particularly suitable for smaller or flat products such as samples, spices, spare parts, or cosmetic items. Depending on requirements, they come with a 2- or 3-side seal: with a 2-side seal the pouch is sealed on two sides, while the bottom is folded and the top remains open and is closed after filling - this variant is well-suited to simple filling processes and is primarily used for small flat pouches. The 3-side seal is mainly used for large flat pouches, as these are often made from multiple webs of material. Flat pouches can also be equipped for the point of sale with Euro slots and additional customizations. The choice between stand-up and flat pouches ultimately depends on product type, desired presentation, and logistical requirements.

Of course, beyond our standard range there are many other types of pouches on the market - such as block-bottom bags, cone bags, or cross-bottom bags. You’ll find a detailed overview in our magazine article “Pouches compared – Doypack / Flat pouch / Block bottom, and more.” Feel free to check it out if you’re interested in the differences and use cases.

Get noticed at the POS – printed stand-up pouches

A strong brand presence starts with the packaging - and our printed stand-up pouches provide the perfect stage. Unlike conventional solutions that are merely labeled with stickers, we enable full-coverage printing of your pouches and if desired, starting from a print run of just 250 units. This is made possible by our state-of-the-art digital printing technology, which offers maximum design freedom even at low quantities.

A special highlight: we print using a reverse-print process. The design is applied between two plastic layers before lamination and is permanently protected - resulting in brilliant colors that neither scratch nor fade due to external influences. This way, your packaging design remains a real eye-catcher even after transport and during use.

Thanks to a broad range of materials - from matte to glossy, from paper to plastic, from transparent to opaque - you can perfectly tailor your custom packaging to your product and brand. Whether a premium metallic look, sustainable kraft paper appearance, or stand-up pouches with custom windows: at packaging warehouse you create packaging that not only protects, but also delights.

Want some inspiration? We’ll be happy to send you a sample box containing pouches made from all our materials.

The advantages of stand-up pouches

Stand-up pouches in various sizes from 100 ml to 1500 ml

The perfect fill volume – custom stand-up pouches

Whether a small product sample or a large-volume content - at packaging warehouse you’ll find the right stand-up pouch for every fill volume. We offer two flexible options: either choose a 100% custom size where you can freely define width, height, and bottom depth in millimeters - perfectly tailored to your product and requirements. Alternatively, you can choose from six practical standard sizes (100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 750 ml, 1000 ml, and 1500 ml), which we produce using a cost-efficient gang-run printing process. Around 70% of our customers already benefit from these formats thanks to particularly low unit prices - while still enjoying a wide range of applications.

Should you still need a special size, that’s no problem: we manufacture pouches starting from a minimum size of 90 × 80 mm + 50 mm bottom depth up to particularly large versions of up to 450 × 600 mm + 130 mm bottom depth - depending on the combination of individual dimensions. We also adapt the material thickness individually on request: thinner films (e.g., 80 µm) are primarily suitable for smaller pouches, while thicker films (e.g., 130 µm) provide the necessary stability for large pouches.

Since the fill volume of different products - depending on density and characteristics - can deviate significantly from the reference value of water, we have created a practical table for you. It shows how much of various products such as coffee, nuts, or pasta fits into our standard sizes (100 ml to 1500 ml), making it easier to choose the right pouch format for your product. Please note that these are guideline values and the personally perfect fill volume or product density may vary:

Stand-up pouches – the most eco-friendly and safest packaging

The most important task of a primary packaging - such as the stand-up pouch - is to reliably protect the packaged product. Especially for food, sensitive contents must be protected from external influences such as oxygen, moisture, and UV radiation. At the same time, the packaging itself must not allow aromas to escape - an essential factor for aroma-rich products like coffee or tea.

At the same time, the demand for sustainable packaging solutions is growing - both from consumers and through legal requirements. Modern packaging must therefore not only protect, but also be environmentally friendly and recyclable. packaging warehouse offers tailored solutions for this: our range extends from premium high-barrier films for maximum product safety to recyclable barrier papers from innovation leader Koehler Paper. In this way, we combine product protection and sustainability in flexible packaging - individually tailored to your product.

What does HACCP mean?

HACCP stands for “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points.” It is a hazard analysis whose main goal is to ensure consumer health. This is achieved by preventing possible and potential hazards in food production. A “hazard” is any undesirable event in the creation of the food that can cause a health risk to the consumer.

Production of stand-up pouches – configuration and printing

Stand-up pouch made from transparent mono film

Material selection & barriers

Our stand-up and flat pouches are made from carefully selected materials that meet the high demands of the food and cosmetics industries. All films used come from certified suppliers in Germany - ensuring not only consistently high quality but also short procurement routes and a stable supply chain. Depending on the application, we offer recyclable mono materials made of PE or PP as well as high-performance composites such as PET/PE or PAP/PE. For optimal product protection and a long shelf life, high barriers such as EVOH, AlOx, or metallizations are used, either extruded directly into the base film or laminated as a separate layer between seal and print films. Many of our films are also available in different thicknesses so they can be precisely adapted to the respective pouch size and intended use.

Printing technologies – order small and large quantities

For printing our stand-up and flat pouches, we offer two proven processes: digital printing and flexographic printing. With both technologies we print on the reverse side. The image is applied to the back of the film and then protected by lamination - ideal for long-lasting color brilliance and abrasion resistance. We print on high-quality films made of BOPP, MDO-PE, or PET, optionally with matte or glossy finishes. Both digital toner and flexo inks are fully certified for food contact. Digital printing is particularly suitable for small to medium runs starting at 250 units and enables fast production within 10–14 working days - without plate costs. Flexographic printing is ideal for larger quantities and offers the option of implementing special colors such as Pantone—however, additional costs are incurred for the required plates.

Digital printing machine
Laminating machine

Lamination process – bonding the films for maximum stability

Immediately after printing, our films are bonded to the base material in the lamination process. This step ensures maximum stability, protection, and durability of the packaging. We “marry” the printed film with the carrier material - a process that combines the advantages of both components. Basically, this lamination can be done in two ways: thermal lamination or wet lamination. We rely exclusively on wet lamination, as it allows us to process nearly all material combinations - including heat-sensitive films. We use a solvent-free polyurethane adhesive that securely bonds the films and ensures odor-neutral, food-safe packaging. After lamination, the rolls must fully cure in a special heated cabinet for 3 to 5 days to ensure the highest quality and stability.

Pouch converting & component selection – zipper, Euro slot & more

After lamination, the actual pouch converting takes place. The desired flat or stand-up pouch is formed from the printed and laminated film web. Depending on the pouch size, we manufacture these either from a single web or - especially for very large formats - from two or three separate webs. All sides and the bottom are precisely sealed, and the desired components are integrated. On request, we equip the pouches with practical extras such as reclosable zippers, tear notches, or a Euro slot. Flat pouches can be sealed on two or three sides. Our standard is the single-track zipper; for powder products we can optionally install a hook-and-loop zipper. All pouches are tested for leaks during production according to ASTM F2096 and carefully documented.

All additional options such as zipper, tear tab, Euro slot, or standard round hole can be selected individually in the configurator and combined as needed. A typical example is the combination of tear tab and zipper: the packaging can first be opened particularly easily and then conveniently reclosed—perfect for products or fill quantities that are not consumed all at once.

Stand-up pouch with window

Custom freeform windows – enabled by white ink

To create an individual viewing window for your stand-up or flat pouch, we use transparent films and the color configuration “4/0 process + white.” The white ink is placed beneath the print motif as an underlayer and ensures that printed areas appear opaque and color-true. Unprinted areas remain transparent, forming a window that gives your product a premium look. For an especially clear, transparent window we recommend a glossy film surface. A matte material can make the window appear slightly milky. Detailed guidelines for correctly setting up white ink can be found in our print data guide for flexible packaging. If you have any questions, our media designers will be happy to assist and advise you. Alternatively, you can find all key information on creating your custom print files in our print data guides for stand-up and flat pouches.

Stand-up pouches in your desired format

For your packaging we offer six fixed stand-up pouch formats that are particularly cost-effective thanks to our gang-run process:

  • 100 ml – 90 x 60 x 160 mm

  • 250 ml – 110 x 70 x 185 mm

  • 500 ml – 140 x 80 x 210 mm

  • 750 ml – 160 x 90 x 250 mm

  • 1000 ml – 190 x 100 x 265 mm

  • 1500 ml – 210 x 110 x 295 mm

Beyond that, you can of course also order custom stand-up pouch sizes precisely matched to your product. This allows you not only to define exact fill quantities but also to realize oversized formats up to a height of approx. 600 mm. We always calculate flat pouches on an individual basis - perfectly tailored to your requirements and your product.

Sustainable packaging – stand-up pouches made from recyclable materials

PP mono film

PP mono films

Our stand-up pouches made from PP mono films offer a sustainable yet premium packaging solution for foods and liquids. The film composites developed in Germany are recyclable and meet the requirements of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), making them a future-proof solution for environmentally conscious packaging concepts. Available in white (116, 123, 146 µm), transparent (111 µm), and silver metallic (111 µm), they meet the highest standards in quality, stability, and printability. Thanks to die-cut tear tabs, the pouches are easy to open, while the selectable surfaces - matte, glossy, or soft touch - create a special haptic experience for end customers. In addition, our PP films impress with excellent barrier performance (OTR and WVTR <0.1), reliably protecting products from oxygen, water vapor, and UV radiation. In this way, our recyclable and PPWR-compliant stand-up pouches combine sustainability, product safety, and an appealing presentation at the point of sale.

PE mono films

Our stand-up pouches made from PE mono films are likewise a sustainable and versatile packaging solution and are, of course, recyclable and PPWR-compliant. The specially developed film composites feature an integrated EVOH barrier that offers high protection against oxygen and water vapor (OTR and WVTR ≤ 1), thereby reliably extending the shelf life of sensitive foods. Available in white (95 and 125 µm) as well as transparent (95 and 125 µm), they meet the highest standards of quality, stability, and printability. The pouches offer good tearing properties - though not quite as smooth as PP mono films - and can be individually designed in matte or glossy finishes. Our PE mono films thus combine sustainability, product protection, and attractive presentation options, making them the ideal choice for manufacturers who rely on modern, recyclable packaging.

Paper without plastic for stand-up pouches

Paper without plastic

Our heat-sealable papers without plastic are the perfect solution for sustainable packaging that relies entirely on environmentally friendly materials. Both variants are coated on the inside with a water-based lacquer, are plastic-free, PPWR-compliant, and can be easily recycled with waste paper. The barrier paper (75 µm) features an integrated medium barrier, is certified for direct food contact, and reliably protects against external influences. The second material without barrier (65 µm) is suitable when no additional protective layer is required. Both materials have similar stability and are particularly suitable for smaller and lighter products. With their surface made of simply coated paper, they impress with a natural look and good printability. Our heat-sealable papers thus offer an eco-friendly and practical alternative to plastic pouches and meet the highest demands for sustainable packaging solutions.

Extensive use cases – stand-up pouches for all industries

Use as primary or secondary packaging

Our stand-up pouches, flat pouches, sachets, and roll stock are certified for direct food contact and are therefore fully suitable as primary packaging. Whether solid, pasty, or liquid foods - our pouches provide a safe and hygienic packaging solution. Vacuum sealing or filling under protective atmosphere is also possible, ensuring optimal freshness and shelf life for your products.

Beyond that, our flexible packaging is equally suitable as secondary packaging. It not only protects the product from external influences but also provides an appealing presentation at the point of sale. Typical areas of application, apart from food, include technical components, cosmetic products, textiles, or non-food items of all kinds.

Stand-up pouch as primary packaging
Stand-up pouch for direct food contact

Stand-up pouches in direct contact with food

Our stand-up pouches are specifically developed and certified for direct contact with food. All materials used comply with the latest legal requirements and regulations, including PFAS, REACH, and NIAS. This ensures that your products are always packaged safely and in compliance with the law.

Depending on packaging size, we offer different material thicknesses that are optimally matched to the respective application:

  • For smaller formats, such as bar or portion packs: 30–80 µm
  • For larger packs, such as doypacks or pouches with higher fill weight: 82–146 µm

Materials with increased UV protection are also available to reliably protect particularly sensitive foods - such as oils, nuts, or snacks - from quality loss due to sunlight.

Stability even for large fill volumes

Even for larger packaging sizes from 1,000 ml, we offer reliable solutions made from particularly robust materials. In our standard range, for example, we offer a 146 µm PP mono material. Thanks to the integrated CPP inner layer, this material has significantly increased stability and is optimally suited for voluminous or heavier fill goods.

To further increase load capacity, we have specially adapted our doypack sealing tools for large formats. This further strengthens stability, especially in the typical risk areas of a doypack.

For applications with very high fill weight or special requirements, we also offer LLDPE films. These feature excellent mechanical properties and ensure maximum durability - even for bulk packaging or demanding transport and storage conditions.

Another advantage: the width of the seal seams can be flexibly adjusted. Our standard dimension is 7.5 mm, but can be increased to 15 mm if required. This ensures absolutely secure and tight packaging even for heavy or bulky contents.

The right stand-up pouch for every industry

With our broad product and material portfolio, we offer the right doypack solution for virtually every industry. Whether as food packaging for snacks, coffee, spices, or frozen products; as cosmetics packaging for creams, powders, or liquids; or as pharmaceutical packaging for sensitive products with the highest safety requirements - our flexible packaging meets the most diverse needs.

In other sectors as well - such as household goods, pet food, chemicals, or technical products - our stand-up pouches impress with their versatility and high functionality. The materials can be individually adapted in terms of barrier properties, haptics, sustainability, and design so that every application is optimally covered.

Thanks to modern printing and finishing techniques, our doypacks also become a strong brand ambassador at the point of sale - functional, sustainable, and visually appealing at the same time.

Whatever your industry: with our packaging solutions you get a product that unites safety, stability, and a convincing appearance.

Stand-up pouches - easy to fill & seal

Our stand-up pouches can be supplied with the zipper closed or open. If the zipper is delivered in the open position, the pouch is usually shaped with the help of compressed air before filling: it is placed over a plastic mandrel, from which a short burst of air inflates the pouch and makes it dimensionally stable.

Filling follows - manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically, depending on requirements. After filling, the zipper usually remains open, while the final seal at the top is made with a heat sealer. Depending on the material type, the sealing temperatures required for this are between 90 °C and 170 °C.

For efficient processes, we also provide the right equipment: with a semi-automatic sealing machine available through us, all common materials can be sealed reliably - at a capacity of up to 20 pouches per minute.

FAQ – all questions about our stand-up pouches

How much does a stand-up pouch cost?

The cost of a stand-up pouch depends on several factors. Key aspects include print run, packaging size, material selection, material thickness, printing technology, and the desired finishing.

  • Small runs are usually produced using digital printing. Depending on the design, prices start at around €0.50 - €0.80 net per pouch.
  • Larger runs are mostly produced using flexographic printing. Thanks to higher quantities, unit prices drop significantly - depending on the design, starting from around €0.09 net per pouch.

Beyond that, other factors influence the cost:

  • Number of colors and finishes (e.g., matte/gloss varnishes, metallic effects, hot foil stamping)
  • Type of closures (zippers, valves, spouts, Euro slots, etc.)
  • Special shapes and sizes outside the standard range
  • Sustainable materials such as recyclable mono films, paper composites, or bio-based films

As a rule: the higher the print run and the more standardized the design, the lower the unit price. Our experts will be happy to advise you on finding the optimal combination of cost, functionality, and design for your application.

What is a stand-up pouch?

Stand-up pouches are flexible packages with a special bottom fold or an integrated stand-up base (e.g., doypack) that gives them stability. They are made of plastic, paper, or composite materials and are ideal for food, cosmetics, or pet food. Thanks to their space-saving shape and reclosure options such as zippers or coffee valves, they are a popular alternative to rigid packaging.

Pouch-style packaging has been around since the 1960s - its inventor Louis Doyen was looking for a way to store and transport fruit juices and olives more easily. The standing plastic packaging - named “doypack” after its inventor - has grown in importance ever since and is now used in many industries.

How are stand-up pouches closed?

Stand-up pouches can be closed in various ways, depending on the application:

Zipper: allows easy opening and reclosing - ideal for foods and snacks.
Heat sealing: the top edge is sealed with a sealing machine, ensuring an air- and aroma-tight package.
Spout cap: used particularly for liquids or powders, offering a convenient dosing option.
Adhesive strips or clips: for a short-term closure, e.g., for sweets or tea.

What is the right material for my stand-up pouch?

The choice of suitable material depends on various factors - above all the product contents, the packaging size, and the individual requirements for the packaging. For example, a viewing window can be useful to give customers a direct look at the product, while a metallized film provides a particularly premium look and additional UV protection.

In addition, technical and functional aspects play an important role:

  • Machine runability: the material must match the filling and sealing machines used to ensure a smooth production process.
  • Barrier properties: protection against oxygen, moisture, UV radiation, or aroma loss is crucial for shelf life and product safety.
  • Sustainability: depending on requirements, recyclable mono materials, bio-based films, or compostable materials are available.
  • Haptics and design: matte or glossy surfaces, paper composites, or soft-touch varnishes enable an individual brand presentation at the point of sale.
  • Special fill goods: for sharp-edged, liquid, or very heavy contents we offer specially reinforced material structures.

How are stand-up pouches filled?

Stand-up pouches can be filled manually or by machine:

  • Manual filling: ideal for small quantities or artisanal production. The pouch is erected by hand, filled, and then closed (e.g., with a sealing machine or a zipper).
  • Semi-automatic filling: pouches are placed manually, then automatically filled with the desired amount and sealed.
  • Fully automatic filling: in industrial processes, filling systems take care of opening, filling, and sealing in one pass. Suitable for large quantities and high efficiency.

Depending on the product type (powder, liquid, granulate), special dosing systems such as auger fillers, piston fillers, or vibratory feeders are used.
