Introduction: The world of flat pouches


Flat pouches, also known as "sealed edge pouches" or "pressure seal pouches", are a versatile and efficient solution in the packaging industry, particularly suitable for products such as food, cosmetics and industrial goods. In contrast to stand-up pouches, which can stand on their own, flat pouches are designed for horizontal or hanging presentation, such as with a Eurohole hanger at the point of sale. These pouches, primarily made from polypropylene and polyethylene plastics, are characterized by their tear-resistant sides, which are sealed or welded on three sides - with the exception of the opening, which you can close securely after filling with a hand sealer or heat sealer. Packaging warehouse expands the applicability of these pouches with an extensive selection that is HACCP-compliant and also offers an ideal packaging option for sensitive goods.

Production: from the roll to the customized flat pouch

Innovative production techniques for flat pouches

In most cases, the manufacturing process for our flat pouches begins with digital printing. For this, we use state-of-the-art HP Indigo printing machines, which are known for their unique print quality. In a first step, a thin film is printed using reverse printing, which is then laminated onto a thicker base film to optimize the durability and functionality of the pouches. The finished film composite is created and the printed image is securely enclosed between the two layers of film. After lamination, the large mother roll is cut into smaller units, which are then transferred to the actual production process. In a complex manufacturing process, the material is converted into the final flat pouch, where individual components such as zippers, Euro perforations or tear tabs can be integrated.

Each of these materials contains a 5µm EVOH barrier for optimum protection against oxygen, water vapor and aroma loss. Customers can also choose between a glossy or matt finish for the film laminates to maximize the aesthetic impact of their products.

Our range includes flat pouches with special windows, mainly made of transparent film materials. These pouches are printed according to specific requests, leaving certain sections unprinted as windows. An additional opaque white is used to increase the intensity of the printed areas and improve the opacity of the colors. Flat pouches of this type are particularly suitable for products that need to be directly visible at the point of sale, such as packaging for pet food, food or medical products. The ability to see the contents directly can increase consumer confidence in the product and have a positive influence on purchasing decisions.

Individual look: metallic, matt or glossy

In addition to customizable windows, we also offer flat pouches with different surface finishes. Metallized surfaces create eye-catching metallic effects in the selected colors. To ensure that certain colors and elements do not appear metallic, they are underlaid with a special opaque white. Customers also have the option of choosing between different surface finishes for all film materials, whether matt or glossy. These options allow for an even more individual design of the packaging in order to specifically increase the attention of the target group.
