Film thickness

Depending on the material structure and application, films have different properties such as colour (white, transparent, natural look, opaque), haptic properties (matt, glossy, soft-touch), stability and tear resistance, barrier performance (OTR / WVTR / MOH / UV radiation) and recycling-related characteristics. Whether a film packaging structure is suitable for recycling depends on the complete packaging structure, its sortability, the intended recycling route and the available recycling infrastructure.

Another important factor is the thickness of the film. This is divided into three simplified categories, as is customary in the industry: thin film, medium-thickness film and thick film. The following table shows the corresponding classification for each category:
