Natural cardboard is not a specific type of cardboard that can be limited to the origin of the raw material, processing or colour. Natural cardboard is an umbrella term for folding boxboard with a natural, unbleached appearance, typically brown or grey and with a rough surface. Depending on the grade, natural cardboard often contains a high proportion of waste paper (secondary fibre) or a share of grass fibre, a rapidly renewable raw material. The term can be used to refer to grass cardboard, brown kraft cardboard and grey recycled cardboard, for example. All of these types of cardboard are particularly suitable for brand identities that want to emphasise a natural look or the use of recycled or alternative fibres. Due to the origin of the raw materials, most natural cardboard is not suitable for direct contact with food.
