What our customers say

Beer labels

Frequently asked questions

How many labels are delivered on a roll?
In our online calculator you have two options to choose from: You can either select the number of labels per roll or the outer diameter of the roll. Please note that the maximum outer diameter is 300 mm. Depending on the quantity and the selected format, these settings can lead to price differences.
What is the correct winding direction for my labels?
If you stick your roll labels on your product by hand, the winding direction is irrelevant. However, if you stick your roll labels on your product with a labeling machine, the winding direction plays an important role. You can find out the correct winding direction from your contract manufacturer, who will label your products for you. Alternatively, the supplier of your labeling machine can help you.
Important: When calculating our labels in our label configurator, the desired label width ("width") is always the witdh of the label web.
E.g: end of word ahead / right ahead = short side is your label
width (x) in our configurator

wickelrichtung rechts voraus / wortende voraus
E.g: foot ahead = long side is your label width (x) in our configurator

wickelrichtung fuß voraus
What does permanent adhesive mean?
A permanent adhesive label adheres particularly well to a wide variety of surfaces such as glass, plastic or paper. After the label has been applied, the adhesive still needs a few hours to develop its full adhesive properties. Therefore, please avoid major fluctuations in temperature or humidity during and after labeling.
What do I have to consider when creating my print data?
To create the print data for your roll labels, you need to follow some instructions.
Please note the following information:

to the print data instruction
Can the labels be printed thermotransfer afterwards?
Yes, all our labels can be subsequently printed with a thermal transfer printer. Simply select the option "thermal transfer printable" in our configurator.
How do I get an original sample print for my labels?
We can produce an original sample of your labels without any problems. The cost for this is around 20-25€ net, with the exact amount depending on the specific requirements regarding material, printing and finishing. In the case of a future order, we will gladly reimburse you for these costs. Alternatively, you can use our label sample box to get a first impression of our materials and quality.
Can special colors also be printed?
All our roll labels are printed digitally in 4C (CMYK). Special colors can therefore not be printed true to the original but can only be simulated. Depending on the color and material, the deviation from the original spot color can be more or less pronounced.
What do I need a protective coating for and what is its function?
A protective coating has various functions. On the one hand, it protects your print image from external influences such as scratches, liquids or dirt, and on the other hand, it ensures an even more beautiful print image with a glossy or optional matte look.

Beer labels – versatile & customisable

Germans love their beer: on average, each person drinks a good 90 litres of Pilsner, wheat beer and the like every year. But how do you pick your favourite beer from over 5,000 varieties? Fortunately, there are beer labels – the perfect labels for every type of beer bottle or can. High-quality and impressive, so that as a brewery you not only fulfil your EU food labelling obligations but also market your beers to the full. Packaging Warehouse is your partner – for top-class beer labels! Labels advertise and inform – through text and images. Beer labels are no exception – and make use of beer seals, neck labels, belly and chest labels, back labels, seal labels or combinations thereof. What’s what?

Necktie
A neck label is a decorative label that wraps around the neck of the bottle – often used as a beer seal or seal label.
Back label
This part of the label is located on the back. Here, consumers will find legally required information about the product – such as net volume, alcohol content, best-before date, ingredients and manufacturer details – as well as instructions on how to handle the packaging, namely the beer bottle.

Beer labels – design possibilities and finishing options!

Only beer labels of the very highest quality – whether in terms of material, printing or finishing – make an impact at the point of sale. The more unique the layout, the stronger the sales and brand recognition. Booming craft beer breweries are leading the way, with their wide range of new beer styles from India Pale Ale to Stout – all featuring that typically quirky design. Whatever your style – whether classic or unconventional – we’re happy to support you with layouts for your beer labels. Never before has there been such a wide range of design options in terms of possible dimensions, materials and printing. Or elegant accents through protective varnish, protective laminate, relief varnish or hot foil stamping in gold and silver. You can really let your creativity run wild, particularly when designing belly and chest labels. The new beer labels are top-notch, tailored and die-cut to suit your products in every way – rectangular, square, oval, round, in special shapes or with your own die-cut outline. As a label printer, we produce your desired label in full-surface Euroscale format, as beer labels on a roll for your labelling machines.

Applying beer labels by machine

Printing beer labels – it’s child’s play and affordable

Looking to label a few bottles of beer yourself? Want to save money with a (semi-)automatic label dispenser? Or apply them on a large scale using a labelling machine? Beer bottle labels from Packaging Warehouse retain their grip and shape even under adverse conditions – provided the label materials are suitable for the product. Paper, plastic, film – each, including the adhesive, has specific advantages. Self-adhesive beer labels are superior to wet-glue labels, which are time-consuming to apply – not least in terms of cost. With a unique feel, paper labels are cost-effective and sustainable here, as they are predominantly made from plant fibres. After use, these beer labels go into the waste paper bin and back into the recycling cycle. Equipped with adhesive on the reverse side for removal, the labels can be removed without leaving any residue before refilling – in one piece rather than in shreds of fibre, and without clogging the plant’s screens.

Beer labels – a wide range of label materials

Despite all this, label paper is so robust and water-resistant that it isn’t damaged during bottling, survives transport without a scratch – and ensures the beer label still looks delicious and crease-free on the shelf. But beer isn’t shampoo (even if some people swear by barley juice as a conditioner); it’s made for immediate consumption. In this respect, waterproof labels and UV resistance – compared to cosmetics labels, for example – take a back seat. Secure adhesion and easy removal later on are also priorities for beer labels made from PP film (polypropylene) and PE film (polyethylene).

What information should appear on a beer label?

Knowing what I’m buying: label printing must be legible – and that means the print quality has to be right. At Packaging Warehouse, we use digital printing or flexographic printing – whichever method is most suitable and, at the same time, most cost-effective for you. Firstly, symbols on the beer label indicate where the empty beer bottle should go: disposable or returnable deposit bottle? PET plastic? The recycling code from 1 to 7 indicates the type of plastic – and a triangle symbol indicates that the plastic is recyclable.

The other information that appears on beer labels varies from country to country – what does it include?

  1. Product name (beer or style, such as Pils, Lager, Kölsch)

  2. Ingredients and additives that are potential allergens Ingredients and additives that are potential allergens

  3. Best-before date or use-by date (the abbreviation ‘MHD’ is prohibited), showing the day, month and year, or alternatively as a notched calendar bar

  4. Net contents in litres, centilitres or millilitres (l, cl, ml)

  5. List of ingredients List of ingredients

  6. Nutritional information

  7. Alcohol content (if over 1.2%), maximum one decimal place, symbol is ‘vol’; up to 5.5 per cent, a deviation of 0.5 per cent is permitted

  8. Manufacturer's details, the brewery's postal address Manufacturer’s details, the brewery’s postal address

Infographic: The Structure of Beer Labels
Hops and malt – that’s all there is to it, isn’t it? Nevertheless, the regulations governing the list of ingredients on beer labels are quite strict: alongside the term ‘water’, ‘brewing water’ is also permitted. ‘Malt’ on its own is sufficient only if it refers to barley malt – supplemented by the statement ‘contains gluten’. Do you brew with natural hops, hop pellets or hop powder? Then ‘hops’ is sufficient, but if you use hop extract, it must be labelled ‘hop flavouring’, ‘hop extract’ (or ‘hop extract’). And only if your beer still contains yeast does it have to be listed on the label.
